WELCOME TO ENCORE 2010-11
We are off to a terrific start. We have about 80+ students enrolled at this time. We’ve had a great time during their first month. The teachers are very excited to be able to spend this time helping the students. If there is anything that you would like or you see that your student needs help with please feel free to contact Carolyn Reece, Kim Watson, or your student's teacher and we will address this during their tutoring time. ENCORE is an afterschool program offered to students in grades 3-8th and siblings of students attending ENCORE.
PARENTS NEED TO KNOW
Encore rules follow the ELS Student Handbook. We have a 0 tolerance policy for misbehavior. 1 strike you are out of the program. We cannot jeopardize the achievement of other students due to distractions caused by unacceptable behavior of another student.
REGISTRATION
The deadline to enroll students for ENCORE will be November 5, 2010. If you would like to enroll your student in ENCORE, please contact the school office.
TYPICAL DAY
Students are divided into groups. Students report to the gym directly after school for snack and down time for fifteen minutes. Students have been divided into groups based upon age, MAP scores, teacher input, STAR testing to receive tutoring in Math, Communication Arts, Reading, or Homework Help. They will remain with the same tutor each day. Groups will travel to the computer lab for a minimum of 30 minutes a week for time on Study Island (Study Island is a computerized program that helps prepare the students to achieve better results on the MAP test.)
BUS SERVICE
We are running one bus route this year. Once the bus meets capacity, we will be unable to accept new students to the program. If you have any questions about bus service, please contact Amy Taylor (816) 805-8872 or the school office at (816) 626-3511 with any concerns and ask for Carolyn Reece or Kim Watson.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE PLANS (IPPS)
There will be a contract between Encore Staff, Student, & Parent to list out their objectives for the program and incentives they will be able to earn. There are two different incentives available to the students who put forth the effort during the Encore program and the regular school day. We hope these incentives will provide the student with the motivation to achieve better results in school and on the MAP test in April.
SCHEDULING
ENCORE will be OPEN most Tuesdays and Wednesdays except for days which conflict with our school calendar. If School is closed or has an early out, then ENCORE is CLOSED. The official ENCORE calendar is on the back of this page. The next day ENCORE will be closed is:
Wednesday, October 20, closed for early release day
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP GETTING THIS PROGRAM STARTED AND YOUR PATIENCE IN GETTING YOUR STUDENTS HOME LATER THAN USUAL.
