WHAT

IS

PARENTS

AS

TEACHERS?

Parents As Teachers is the first connection with the local school district that some families have.  Our program works closely with EL preschool and Kindergarten classes.

Parents As Teachers offers free personal visits, weekly play groups, bimonthly newsletters, group meetings with guest speakers, and developmental screenings. PAT provides families with children prenatal to school age with age appropriate  developmental information and a free book at every visit or meeting.  Our program is closely involved with the community.  The East Lynne/Gunn City volunteer fire department, local dental hygienists, physicians, and businesses have been involved at our meetings

MEET YOUR PARENT EDUCATOR

My name is Linda Cox, my family has lived in this community for 37 years.  My husband and I are celebrating 40 years of married life in 2009.  We have two wonderful grown sons, one terrific daughter-in-law, and five amazing grandchildren (that I can't help talking about).  I have worked at East Lynne School for 18 years and worked in the Harrisonville School system before that. I attended College of the Ozarks, have worked with young children for over 30 years, attended the Parents As Teachers National Center institute to become a certified  Parents As Teachers Educator, and I've attended yearly workshops provided by DESE and Parents As Teachers National Center.  I have worked closely with neighboring school districts to achieve the best coverage for our entire community, to insure that all children will enter school ready to learn.  Over the years, I've been very blessed to be welcomed in to the home life of so many families and have made wonderful friends- both young and old.  It has been reaffirmed to me that all parents are doing the best they know how, to be the best first teacher for their children.
